What a Fortnight!
Dear Loki-ites,
All I can I say is wow and all I can do is yawn. What an exhausting fortnight its been. We have been open now more than ten days and we have been pretty much full since opening day. And what an opening it was. We had close on 300 people rocking the bar on Paddys Day, the 80 plus guests we had plus friends form La Paz as well as the Irish Consul, Peter O Tool. and loads of randomers from other hostels.
The day kicked off with the Ireland V Italy at 9.30 am 1match and continued straight through till midnight, when the bar had to be shut due to extreme levels of dementia in the guests and extreme levels of fatigue in the workers. Our friends who helped us deserve a huge thanks.
One week to go!
Hello Everybody,
Sorry for the long delay since the last blog but Dror and I along with the whole team have been really busy with this little project of ours in La Paz. And the work is beginning to pay off. We already are due a full house for Saint Patricks day, so if your coming this way, book now! Hostelworld have confirmed what we already knew. This is one of the best locations in the world to celebrate this great day. We were placed in the top 5 hostel in the world to spend it. Read what they wrote about us!
Loki Backpackers, La Paz, Bolivia
Located in “the city that touches the clouds,” Loki Hostel is preparing for its grand opening on St. Patrick’s Day with a raucous celebration worthy of its majestic stature. A hearty helping of pork sausages and black and white pudding, an endless litany of Jameson and Guinness, and a healthy dose of Irish goodwill will commemorate the highest Irish-owned bar on the planet, opening its doors at a height of 12,000 feet. At that dizzying elevation, the drinking prowess of the finest strappin’ lads will be tested by the thin air, distinguishing the true Irish revelers from their lightweight imitators. And you thought a hangover at sea level was bad?
Comings, Goings and Carnival
Hey everybody, hope your all keeping well and for those of you in South America, watch out its Carnival!
We have had a steady flow of friends in and out of the house in the last couple of weeks. So a big goodbye to Lyndsay, Rune and Lailah who left today. The Irish girls Siobhan and Ammo as well as their mate Nadine are leaving in a couple of days as well and we will be sorry to see them go. Mel our Portadown Brother is heading off soon with a promise to return. We were delighted to see Avi for a few days and I was even more delighted when he sent up two packets of Drum!!! Gus and Gra have comeback to us after a jaunt around Argentina.
The Loki La Paz crew grows
Hey everybody,
Have been mad busy with the hostel, things are progressing nicely. I have new pics to post soon of the bar and all the work being done. At the moment we have a few people keeping us company that I thought i should mention. We have Loz and Lyndsay from Loki Cusco as well as Mel from Portadown who I met first in Loki Lima. His two friends Irene and Karoline left this morning. I have a dublin gang coming in to stay this evening. I have never met them before but were sent my direction by Alan Barnes an old friend from my Loki Cusco days. Next week sometime sees the arrival of Gus and Grainne again from Loki Cusco and Drors girlfriend Carito from Lima.
Eibhlin and Loz
Eibhlin and Loz have called in to see us from Cusco. Loz is staying for a while and Eibhlin is staying for a few days. Along with Lyndsay we now have a house with a few heads in it, which is great company for me and Dror. If any of the rest of you are passing through La Paz give us a shout!
Opening Day Announced
The Worlds Highest Irish Owned Bar Under Construction
Two days ago construction started on the highest Irish owned bar in the world. Where? In Loki La Paz of course! Guess where the second highest is? Loki Cusco.
Location Revealed
Dear Loki-ites,
We can officialy reveal the location of the new Loki in La Paz. We are located in the old Hotel Viena on 420 Calle Loayza. As you can see from this map it is a short stumble from Olies and the Witches Market.
Pachamama 30/12/2006
Hey all,
Hope one and all had a good Christmas!
Dror and I have officialy "christianed" the new bar, by having our first drink listening to all our favourite Loki Tunes. As is traditional here the first sips were poured on the floor to Pachamama (mother earth). Water and Electricity now in the building which means that we can have a sneaky one or two on New Years Eve. Dror had the first piss in the building as well, which I believe to be his honor in Cusco as well.
Have been having a ball for the last couple of days. Ran into an old friend from home Labhaoise Brennan. I hadn´t seen her in around 4 years and it was great to bump into her here in La Paz. We share the same birthday so we rocked out in Olies and Mongos. We even had Olie dancing on the bar. Pics of the Christmas Lunacy to follow.
Season´s Greetings from La Paz
Happy Christmas from Osgur and Dror
Osgur and Dror would like to wish all Loki guests, past, present and future and all our friends in Lima, Cusco, La Paz and across the world the very best this festive season. We sincerely hope that next year is a cracker for all of you!
Now lets get hammered!!!!
