In the center historico, there are many restaurants to choose from in the daytime. If you take the ecovia to the next stop south, La Marin station, and head up ave. Chile you will find many cheap but good restaurants offering a variety of food.

At night the best variety of choice is in Mariscal, you can take the ecovia bus a couple of stops north to get to the Mariscal. The heart of Mariscal is the corner of Juan Leon Mera and Calama. From here there a a variety of restaurants, some are overpriced and aimed at tourists, otherwise you can buy a shawarma for a dollar or two.

This is a blatant ad for my hostel in Quito. Come and stay. Its really excellent, except for the times when it sux. After working in Lima with the loki guys, I picked my brain cells off the floor and came up with a hostel up north. Cheers, Matt
